Andy Keen: A Lifetime of Passion for the Night Sky
Andy Keen: A Lifetime of Passion for the Night Sky
Andy Keen’s fascination with the night sky began with the Aurora Borealis, and over the years, he has spent more than 9,000 hours under its ethereal glow. He has guided thousands of people across the Arctic in pursuit of this natural wonder, maintaining an impressive 95% success rate in delivering Aurora sightings.
Andy’s work has been featured in world-renowned publications, including National Geographic, Sky & Telescope, The Guardian, China Life, The Times, and Wanderlust Magazine. His photography has graced the front page of Spaceweather.com numerous times, and his images were recognised as some of the best astronomy pictures of 2012 by the prestigious Sky & Telescope magazine.
Media and Documentary Contributions
Andy’s expertise extends beyond photography. He has been involved in several high-profile media projects:
- Contributed to the BAFTA-nominated documentary Little Stargazing for BBC Scotland, which brought the magic of the Aurora to a wide audience.
- Played a pivotal role in the award-nominated documentary The Sun – Star of Stars, produced by Spiegel TV in collaboration with ARTE and Curiosity Stream. The documentary explores the Sun’s profound influence on Earth, including its role in creating the Aurora Borealis, and is now celebrated at the Silbersalz Science & Media Festival.
- Supported French, German, and Belgian TV projects as both a contributor and fixer, providing his expertise on the Aurora and Arctic photography.
A Passion for Sharing Knowledge
Andy’s workshops and expeditions are known for their personalised, professional, and friendly approach. Far from commercialised experiences, these adventures are tailored for those seeking a unique connection with the Arctic and the cosmos. While no one can guarantee an Aurora sighting due to the unpredictability of weather and solar activity, Andy and his team guarantee 100% effort to help you fulfil your dream of seeing the Northern Lights.
Beyond the Aurora: Andy’s Philanthropic Efforts
Andy’s dedication to helping others extends beyond photography. He was the Founder and Chief Executive of The Neuropathy Trust (1998–2014), a UK-based charity that provided support and information to individuals affected by peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain. Under his leadership, the organisation assisted thousands worldwide and raised more than £2 million for charitable purposes.
